About us

Ross and Nikki, both students in their 20s from Bournemouth University, launched their bike hire business in 1993 with a loan from the Prince’s Trust. Today, Cyclexperience is still owned and run as a family business. The ‘secret ingredient’ of their success? An amazing team providing world-class customer experience.

The Cyclexperience story

Cyclexperience founded

May 1993

When we started out, we were just 20 bikes in a grain shed, with a big idea.

First retail store opened

1994

We opened the Island Shop (now Boost Bike Hub) in Brockenhurst to focus on Bike Hire & Rental.

First hire centre opened

1998

As our hire business grew, we built new premises conveniently situated in Brockenhurst Rail Station Car Park.

Started selling E-bikes

2000

15 years before the ‘E-bike revolution’ we were already seeing the potential of Electric bikes.

Trading Standards Award

2001

We were the first bike shop to be awarded ‘Buy with Confidence’ by Hampshire Trading Standards.

1st UK shop to sell Cube Bikes

2002

Cyclexperience were the first bike shop in England to sell Cube bikes.

High five! An award!

2005

Cyclexperience was recognised by the Southern Tourist Board as a runner up for Best Tourism Experience.

Launched early Ecommerce

2004

Cyclexperience launched one of the first e-commerce sites in the UK cycling industry.

Corfe Castle centre opened

2007

Cyclexperience begins renting bikes at the stunning Corfe Castle, Dorset.

Supporting Sky Ride

2010

We provided hire bikes to Sky Ride events in cities around the country.

All Ability bike scheme

2013

We hosted the first New Forest National Park Inclusive bike scheme, PEDALL.

Fleet size increased

2014

Cyclexperience becomes the first hire centre on the South Coast to offer over 300 quality bikes to rent.

New Hire Centre completed

August 2016

We built a new hire centre in Brockenhurst Station Car Park with the help of a National Park Grant.

Cycling App Launched

July 2017

Working with local agency fwdesign, our most popular New Forest & Dorset routes are available on the free 'Cyclexperience' app.

Yaay! We won 3 awards!

November 2017

Cyclexperience won (not one, not two) three times at New Forest Brilliance In Business awards!

Our 30th birthday

Cyclexperience was launched on 1st May 1993. We all celebrated with bubbly in our coffee mugs!
