What is a Cycle to Work Scheme?
It's a smart government-backed scheme designed to promote health, wellbeing, and reduce traffic congestion.
Your employer pays for your bike upfront, and the cost is then deducted from your salary before tax — which means you pay less tax and National Insurance. Pretty neat, right?

Can I buy a discounted bike on a cycle to work scheme?
Sometimes, yes, but with conditions. Firstly, the Bike to Work schemes operate by taking a commission off the bike shop sale and some of the schemes are a bit greedier than others! Sometimes, the scheme provider makes more money than the bike shop! We won’t name names, but Green Commute and Gogeta are the BEST schemes for bike shops - so try and use these ones if your employer has no preference. In short, sometimes the shop will have to add the commission back onto the price of the bike if the sale was discounted.
Limited company owners
If you are a limited company owner or director paid through PAYE, your company may be able to purchase a bike and make it available through its own Cycle to Work-style arrangement. This must be set up correctly and checked by your accountant.
